my ethos

I fundamentally believe that the best creative outcomes are achieved through strong client-designer relationships, which is why every project I undertake goes through a step-by-step process that has been refined over the years.

Brand Process

1. Workshop and Discovery

Every project begins with a kick-off meeting. This is your opportunity to explain to me your brand's virtues, it's USP and ultimately what you want to achieve with a new identity. It also allows me to ask questions to get a better understanding of your industry and competitors.

2. Conceptual Ideas

The first phase begins by looking at your existing logo within the wider marketplace or just the marketplace itself if it's a new brand. Following that I will present you with several initial ideas in black and white based upon the criteria from the brief, but sometimes also including designs that challenge this.

3. Typeface and Colours

Once we have started to create a feel for the potential logo identity, I will do the same for the typefaces and colour palette. Trying various font options in serif and sans-serif, in different weights and cases, then combining these with colour schemes either based on your existing brand guidelines or created from scratch.

4. Review and Iteration

Following your review and feedback, I will create iterated versions of the brand identity, that develop steps 2 and 3 as we hone in on a look that we are both happy with. These ideas will always be presented in various formats to ensure that the brand is flexible enough to work well on social media as in more traditional media platforms.

5. Design Assets

On final approval, I will provide you with a set of design assets within your own client area on Dropbox. We can then discuss if you need me to create any further marketing collateral, internal design guidelines or a presentation deck to support a pitch.

Web Process

1. Workshop and Discovery

Every project begins with a kick-off meeting. This is your opportunity to explain to me your brand's virtues, it's USP and ultimately what you want to achieve with a new website. It also allows me to ask questions to get a better understanding of your industry and competitors.

2. Pre-design blueprint

A successful website relies on being easy to navigate, directing your target audience to go where you want them to and strong coherent messaging. By considering the (UX) User Experience & (IA) Information Architecture, we are ensuring that we have created a logical hierarchy of content and how it should be presented. If you have Google Analytics installed on your existing website, this will help to inform what's already working and what isn't.

Please read my GGFit Collaboration Case Study for more details on how beneficial this pre-design approach can be when working on a website project.

3. (UI) User Interface Design

All my designs are created as bespoke front-end HTML & CSS templates within Webflow. This shows not only how the website looks on a Desktop, Tablet and Mobile view, but also allows you to interact with them within your browser and share with your colleagues to garner feedback.

4. Build and Content

Following your review, I will build out the all the website pages from the templates established in stage 3. This is also when I will incorporate your content and imagery so that the whole site starts to take shape. If you need assistance with generating the copy, I can recommend several copywriters who can help you to establish the right tone of voice.

5. CMS Integration and Handover

If you are keen to maintain the website yourself after launch, I can integrate a Content Management system such as Craft or Perch depending on how much control you wish to take. Alternatively, the site can remain static and I can make updates on ad-hoc basis. Either way the fundamental visual styling is "locked-down" to ensure the design will always looks it's best.
